What is an Independent Living Support Service?
Kurrajong Waratah Independent Living Service is called Community Living
Support Service (CLSS) and is a division of Kurrajong Waratah. We provide
regular drop-in support to adults with an intellectual disability who live
in their own homes in the community.
What does it do?
CLSS Community Workers visit service users in their own
home during the evenings. They provide support and training in a variety of
areas depending on the individual needs and one social activity on
weekends.
1. Social Skills - Support in relationships, self-esteem, communication,
self advocacy, decision making and choice, rights and responsibilities.
2. Money Management - Support in budgeting, bill paying and banking.
3. Relaxation and Leisure Activities - Support in accessing social and
sporting activities and holidays.
4. Household Living - Support in cooking, cleaning, shopping and personal
safety.
5. Personal Life - Support in making and keeping medical appointments,
self care, healthy eating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
6. Community Access - Support to access the community according to their
individual needs.
7. Vocational/Employment - Community workers will assist the service users
to maintain their lifestyle to enable them to access their
vocation/employment.
Why is it important?
CLSS supports service users according to their needs to enable them to
maximize their skills as independently as possible.
Who can use this service?
A person who has an intellectual disability and requires
limited support to live independently in the community. Placements are
dependent on availability and resources. They must want to receive the
service and preferably have family support in their decision to live
independently. The person must live in Wagga Wagga and be able to support
themselves financially. Fees apply to this service.
Where do people live?
Service users live all over Wagga Wagga. Most live in
rented properties. Some people live alone, others choose to live with
friends or with a partner.
