Respite Accommodation
What is it?
Respite Accommodation is a division of Kurrajong Waratah
which provides planned short term breaks for families/carers of children
and adults with a disability in order to support and maintain primary care
giving relationships.
What does it do?
Respite provides a positive experience including the
opportunity to mix with other people enabling the regular carer a break.
Why is it important?
Families have the constant responsibility in providing care
to their son or daughter with a disability. Parents often have limited time
for themselves to maintain their own interests, health and relationships.
Planned respite gives families that all important break.
Who can use this service?
A child or adolescent with an intellectual disability with
the minimum age of 8 years. Placements are dependent on availability and
resources. Child/adult must live in the nine local government councils
surrounding Wagga Wagga (Leeton, Narrandera, Lockhart, Coolamon, Temora,
Junee, Gundagai, Cootamundra and Tumut). The family must be able to provide
transport from their family home to respite.
