The Rural Beginnings ProgramKurrajong Early Intervention Service (KEIS) was funded by the Federal Government from 2005-2009 to implement the Rural Beginnings - Invest to Grow project. On the 16th February 2009, The Hon Jenny Macklin MP announced the establishment of the Family Support Program. The Family Support Program will work with and support families to nurture children to enable them to better manage life's transitions and contribute to building stronger more resilient communities. The Family Support Program is a national program with: - Three core streams of services - Better alignment and linking of services and - A strong collaborative approach. KEIS was successful in obtaining funding from the Family Support Program (2009-2011) to continue to provide early intervention services to the 9 local governments areas around the regional city of Wagga Wagga, NSW. The Rural Beginnings Project is based on our existing successful early intervention model of therapist, educators and family support workers collaboratively working together to provide services to children and their families meeting their individual needs. The nine Local Government Areas that the project services have been divided into three main service areas. Tumut, Tumbarumba, Gundagai LGA's, Temora, Cootamundra, Junee LGA's. Lockhart, Coolamon, Narrandera LGAs, Three early intervention teams have been formed to go out into the local communities where the families live. Wagga Wagga will act as a resource centre-the 'hub'. Each team comprises of an Educator, a Speech Pathologist, an Occupational Therapist and a Physiotherapist. Family Support Workers will work as a resource unit across all the teams working through family issues, coordinating services and linking families in with local services in the community.
