What is it?
Respite provides planned short term breaks to families/carers for their
children who have a disability in order to support and maintain primary
care giving relationships.
What does it do?
Respite provides a positive experience including the opportunity to mix
with other people enabling the regular carer to have a break. Respite is
provided in a child friendly environment.
Why is it important?
Families have the constant responsibility in providing care to their son
or daughter with a disability. Planned respite gives families that all
Who can use this service?
A child or adult with an intellectual disability with the minimum age of
8 years. Placements are dependent on availability and resources. Children
can live in the 9 local government councils surrounding Wagga
Wagga (Leeton, Narrandera, Lockhart, Coolamon, Temora, Junee,
Gundagai, Cootamundra and Tumut). The family must be able to provide
transport from their family home to respite.
